Trips Preview Party

Shana’s Trail Grand Opening Celebration
A new 800-meter running trail is opening at Willamalane Park honoring athlete Shana Thomas Barr. Sip a free hot drink, hear from the community partners who brought this project to life, and watch the inaugural youth fun run.

Willamalane Park Swim Center
Preview programs and activities you and your family can enjoy this winter and spring and be ready to participate! Bring a swimsuit to try a water fitness class and play in the pool after the event, and bring your tennis shoes to try a yoga class or participate in a fun kids' run. We'll have demos, tours, and a wide variety of hands-on activities to choose from! Plus, score a 10% off coupon for featured classes and programs, valid on registration day the next morning, Wednesday, Dec. 8.

  • 3 p.m.: Shana’s Trail grand opening at Willamalane Park basketball courts.
  • 3:30 p.m.: Preview Party begins at Willamalane Park Swim Center. Browse hands-on activities and upcoming programs.
  • 3:50 p.m.: Kids' fun run at Shana's Trail.
  • 4:10 p.m.: Hatha Yoga demo in the outdoor covered area. Bring your own yoga mat.
  • 4:30 p.m.: My First Sports demo for preschool-age kids and their grown-ups in the mural covered area. Wear sneakers.
  • 4:50 p.m.: Active Exercise demo in the outdoor covered area. Wear sneakers.
  • 5 p.m.: Kayak practice in the lap pool at Willamalane Park Swim Center. Wear a swimsuit or wetsuit and bring your own kayak.
  • 5:10 p.m.: Water exercise demo in the warm water pool. Wear a swimsuit.
  • 5:50 p.m.: Water exercise demo in the warm water pool. Wear a swimsuit.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Free recreation swim in the pool.
  • 8 p.m.: Event ends.

Springfilm: “North by Northwest”
Springfilm is a chance for our community to gather once a month at the Wildish Theater, enjoy a movie, and talk about it afterward. Free!

In December join us for “North by Northwest,” not rated, 1959. This classic suspense film finds New York City ad executive Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) pursued by ruthless spy Phillip Vandamm (James Mason) after Thornhill is mistaken for a government agent. Hunted relentlessly by Vandamm's associates, the harried Thornhill ends up on a cross-country journey, meeting the beautiful and mysterious Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) along the way.

The artist, Abigail Dolby, is a studio and digital artist who uses her interdisciplinary skills to create artwork that inspires conversation; finding new ways to encourage curiosity in her viewers. Her studio work mostly consists of eccentric and provoking acrylic paintings. Her art will be on display at Island Park Art Gallery from Dec. 1-Jan. 25.

Willamalane Park Master Plan Public Meeting

Willamalane is developing a new master plan for the future of this community park and we need your help! Three concepts have been designed and are available for public feedback. These concepts include possibilities for a new outdoor aquatic facility, a bike pump track, a new signature play area, and more. Please view the concepts, join Willamalane for a public meeting, and give your feedback.

Discover Snowshoeing with Willamalane

Winter Solstice Celebration 

The winter solstice signifies the shortest day of the year and the longest night. Throughout the ages, solstice has been marked by different cultures through celebrations of light, feasts and music. Join us at Dorris Ranch for a family-friendly celebration of light with a campfire, storytelling, sweet treats, craft making and a luminary walk.

JANUARY

Springfilm: “The Thing”

Springfilm is a chance for our community to gather once a month at the Wildish Theater, enjoy a movie, and talk about it afterward. Free!

In January join us for “The Thing,” rated R, 1982. In remote Antarctica, a group of American research scientists are disturbed at their base camp by a helicopter shooting at a sled dog. When they take in the dog, it brutally attacks both human beings and canines in the camp and they discover that the beast can assume the shape of its victims. A resourceful helicopter pilot (Kurt Russell) and the camp doctor (Richard Dysart) lead the camp crew in a desperate, gory battle against the vicious creature before it picks them all off, one by one.

Springfilm: “Strictly Ballroom”
Springfilm is a chance for our community to gather once a month at the Wildish Theater, enjoy a movie, and talk about it afterward. Free!

In February join us for “Strictly Ballroom,” rated PG, 1992. A top ballroom dancer pairs with a  left-footed local girl, and when his maverick style earns him the disdain of his more conventionally-minded colleagues. Together, the team gives it their all and makes dreams of the National Championship title come true.

The artist, Gail Levine, was born in Fall River, Massachusetts. Art has been an important part of Gail's life for as long as she can remember, stretching back to when she discovered Crayons. Watercolors and mixed media have proved to be the perfect medium for her talent. Her images are dreamy, yet vivid, with layers of translucent colors. Gail's art will be on display at Island Park Art Gallery from Feb. 1-March 25.

Do you wish you knew the names of the different types of birds that visit your birdfeeder? Want to increase your skill in bird identification? At this Lunch and Learn, Ecology Instructor and Wildlife Biologist, Pat Boleyn will share her expertise on how to identify birds anywhere and understand how to attract birds to your yard. Springfilm is a chance for our community to gather once a month at the Wildish Theater, enjoy a movie, and talk about it afterward. Free!

In March join us for “Jumaji,” rated PG, 1995. A magical board game unleashes a world of adventure on siblings Peter (Bradley Pierce) and Judy Shepherd (Kirsten Dunst). While exploring an old mansion, the youngsters find a curious, jungle-themed game called Jumanji in the attic. When they start playing, they free Alan Parrish (Robin Williams), who has been stuck in the game's inner world for decades. If they win the game, the kids can free Alan for good, but that means braving giant bugs, ill-mannered monkeys and even stampeding rhinos!

APRIL

Springfilm: “Death at a Funeral”

Springfilm is a chance for our community to gather once a month at the Wildish Theater, enjoy a movie, and talk about it afterward. Free!

In April join us for “Death at a Funeral,” rated R, 2007. Chaos reigns when members of a dysfunctional family gather to bury a loved one. Son Daniel (Matthew MacFadyen) anticipates a face-off with his famous brother Robert (Rupert Graves), while cousin Martha (Daisy Donovan) and her fiance Simon (Alan Tudyk) are desperate to make a good impression on her father. In the midst of the family turmoil, a mystery guest threatens to bring the deceased's skeleton out of the closet.
