Art

Find your inspiration!  Adult art classes are great for novice to professional artists. Learn a new skill, perfect your existing talent, unwind, and be creative.

Learn the basics of painting using odor-free, quick-drying, easy cleanup, colorful acrylic paints. We will complete a fairly simple painting, from start to finish in each class. Have fun and get some art and color therapy!

Drawing and Painting Summer Flowers: Ages 50+. We all enjoy the beauty of spring and summer flowers that bloom all around us. Either, drawing, or painting in watercolor or acrylics, we will study how to paint a variety of flowers in groups or an individual flower.

Culinary

De-mystifying Food Labels and Catch Phrases: Are you puzzled by the words "natural" and "net carbs"? This class will explain food labels in a way that will help you understand what is important to look for when grocery shopping.

Butter Chicken and Plalak Paneer: Ages 18+. Learn to cook two dishes popular in Indian restaurants throughout the world. These two recipes are simple and delicious, and all supplies are provided.

Preparing a Summer Dinner: Ages 18+.  Just in time for the warm weather, this class will highlight very easy recipes to make your dinner special. The main dish, side, and dessert will be demonstrated. All supplies and recipes provided.

Languages

American Sign Language: Ages 13+. Through a series of games, practice drills, and continuous review, students will learn American Sign Language basics. This is a good exploration of sign language and will help in deciding if learning sign language is something you would like to do long-term.

Spanish: Ages 13+. Gain basic comprehension, learn greetings, numbers, directions, and much more! As classes get more advanced, you'll also learn more complex Spanish verbs, vocabulary, sentence structure, and everyday usage.

Urban Homesteading

Preserving Fruits and Vegetables: Learn proper canning techniques, including what you can and can’t process in a steam canner, blanching and freezing techniques, and drying herbs, fruits, and vegetables.

Storytelling 101: Ages 50+.  For beginners as well as established writers alike, we'll be sharing the fun and stimulating process of writing and sharing the unforgettable people and events that shaped your life. Our facilitator is Anne Heide, former writer at The Register-Guard.
