The outdoor skatepark at Willamalane Park is a place where area youth can have an appropriate place to practice their sport and gather with their peers at no cost. People on skateboards, bicycles and scooters can use the skatepark.
This skatepark features chunky, abrupt shapes with definite corners. And doesn't that one look like a picnic table? Yes, that is a "picnic table" in the middle, right in front of a set of "stairs" and across from a very real fire hydrant. This "street-style" skatepark looks more like the real world, and it's just what Springfield skaters told designers they wanted.

A
Skatepark Dedication Ceremony was held on April 30, 2003. The event
featured a special guest appearance by famed skateboarder and skatepark
donor Tony Hawk (shown at right).
This ceremony marked the culmination of a communitywide effort to bring this skatepark to Springfield. Community volunteers and donors were also recognized for their generous support in building this important recreational facility. Local and national pros performed a one-hour demo commemorating the dedication of the skatepark.
