This class draws from an array of dance disciplines — jazz, modern, and ballet — to help you move through your core and deepen your awareness, building confidence, patience, and self-esteem. Learn gentle and proper stretching techniques, toning exercises and movements that when combined promote mental concentration, improve postural alignment and strength, lengthen muscles, tune balance, and increase mobility, range and freedom of movement. Students explore simple yoga movements and meditation in a safe, friendly environment. This foundation class is designed to introduce yoga and meditation to anyone regardless of age and condition. Students learn yogic breathing; movements, or asanas, seated or on a mat; basic philosophy; inner focus; integration and awareness. Learn specific techniques for quieting the mind and focusing inward. This approach teaches students how to create a sacred space, practice regularly, refine breathing, use mantras and follow guided meditation. Excellent for beginners and seasoned yogis alike. This new class offers an excellent introduction to tai chi and qigong. The class explores basic tai chi warm-up and stretching movements, plus tai chi and qigong breathing and stance trainings. The six tai chi warm-ups and eight set forms are designed to increase balance, flexibility and strength.
