Second Artificial Turf Sports Field Completed

Laying down the artificial turf. Now there are two!

Reservation requests are already pouring in for Willamalane’s second artificial turf sports field at the 32nd Street Community Sports Park.

Willamalane Park and Recreation District installed the city’s first artificial turf field at the sports complex last year. Artificial turf fields allow more teams to take to the field more often and require much less maintenance than natural turf fields. And having two fields at one site gives Springfield a chance to lure major tournaments.

A $500,000 grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission is helping to fund the second field. Donations from private individuals and the business community are helping to fund lighting.

Two more natural turf sports fields will be built at the sports complex as funds become available. The park also features a playground, climbing wall, and rest rooms. The fields lie south of the 155,000-square-foot Regional Sports Center built by Broad Base Programs, Inc.
